If you are eligible to apply to the Mental Health Tribunal and are considering making an application, you are entitled to free, non-means tested legal advice.
If you decide to proceed with an application to the Mental Health Tribunal, or if your case is referred to the Mental Health Tribunal for hearing, you are entitled to free, non-means tested legal representation. Such representation will cover work up to and including the hearing itself, plus advice on whether you have any grounds to appeal a tribunal decision.
Andrew qualified as a Solicitor in 1999 and was initially a General Practitioner covering both contentious and non-contentious matters, holding Higher Rights of Audience to appear at the Crown Court. He then chose to specialise exclusively in Mental Health Law and he now advises patients detained under The Mental Health Act 1983, represents patients at applications for discharge to Mental Health Tribunals and Hospital Managers’ Hearings. He acts for clients all over the country. Having been a Criminal Solicitor for many years, he is also best suited to conduct forensic Mental Health cases.
He also represents patients and their families in proceedings at the Court of Protection relating to health and welfare cases and those involving deprivation of liberty. He acts for clients in proceedings brought under Section 21A of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
He is also a Barrister and is a member of Lincoln’s Inn. He also trains fellow professionals on Mental Health Law.
